Investee Celebration 2009

On December 24, UnLtd India celebrated its nearly 35 investees (representing almost 25 start-up social ventures) with a party at the Bombay Radio Club.  The group of investees are remarkable people from all segments of society; their initiatives take on a wide variety of issues, from ecotourism and education to homelessness and job creation for deaf people.  The party was a chance for them to connect with each other and UnLtd India's supporters - leaders from the public and private sectors who are passionate about enabling social change.
The evening's speakers gave insight into their work and how UnLtd India has influenced it.  Each is creating unique change; all are profoundly inspiring individuals.  Here's who they are -

  • 2007 investee Pooja Taparia of Arpan, an organization dedicated to preventing the child sexual abuse and healing those who have been affected by it
  • 2008 investee Vijaya Pastala of Under the Mango Tree, an ethical, organic certified company which provides long-term market linkages between rural producers and urban consumers
  • 2009 investee Ashok Rathod of Oscar Football Club, an initiative that uses football as a platform for educating school dropouts
  • Expert Panelist Suman Srivastrav of Euro RSCG, one of the world's largest integrated marketing communications agencies

The celebration was an exciting way to usher in a new year of change and inspiration.  Thank you all who made it a fantastic experience.

About UnLtd India

India is booming. Yet enormous social issues remain for hundreds of millions of people across the country.

UnLtd India is built on a belief that individuals - not necessarily the government nor the established NGO sector - can bring critical new ideas, energy and resources that are needed to solve these problems. We call these people social entrepreneurs.

How we make a difference

UnLtd India is a launch pad for social entrepreneurs in India. We work with start-up social entrepreneurs to help them grow as leaders and create high-impact, sustainable organisations ready for scaling and further investment.

We're different because we engage before almost all other funders and investors. We also have a unique blend of financial and non-financial support, and offer increasing levels of support as the social entrepreneur and their organisation develop.

We have four programmes:

  • Seed funding: Loan-based funding to pay for critical early start-up costs and to support the entrepreneur as they take their organisation to a sustainable level
  • Incubation support: Hands-on coaching & training (covering business & financial planning, fundraising, legal structures, governance, marketing and HR management), and high-value connections, linking our entrepreneurs with others like them, mentors, subject-matter experts, and further funders or investors
  • Co-working space: Our Bombay Hub, provides an environment where diverse social entrepreneurs can have access to the space, people and the ecosystem to successfully launch their ventures
  • Conference: An annual conference focused on start-up social entrepreneurs in India
