The Huddle: Powering Potential

By April 19, 2017 No Comments

On April 6th UnLtd India hosted our flagship conference The Huddle in Mumbai.

With over 150 participants this year, The Huddle proved to be a huge success in bringing together our Fellows, partners and key funders and investors from the sector.

The conference began with electrifying opening plenaries by Matthew Spacie of Magic Bus and Sweta Mangal of MUrgency and Ziqitsa Healthcare Ltd. Their inspiring journeys set the tone for the rest of the day, reminding us to be persistent and fearless in the pursuit of our goals.

To celebrate 10 years of our journey as an incubator, The Huddle hosted 4 Sector Showcase Panels. The Panels featured Fellows working in our most prominent sectors: Education, Environment, Agriculture and Livelihoods.  We were also proud to present our brand new Skilling portfolio in a Sector Showcase Panel.

The sector showcases panels were an enriching exchange of ideas and feedback and gave our Fellows exposure to some important resources in the sector. Our Incubation Team worked tirelessly with Fellows to perfect their pitches before the big day. Fellows got invaluable insights from veterans of the social sector who asked probing questions and put our Fellows through their paces.  Other than the valuable experience, we are also thrilled to facilitate further partnerships and exciting opportunities for our Fellows that arose as a result of their stellar presentations at the panels.

The Huddle is always intended to be a forum that allows leaders and changemakers to be curious and encourages them to learn new skills. Keeping this spirit intact we organized two Masterclasses that would help build important capabilities in our community.

The first Masterclass titled ‘Tapping into Technology’ was led by Dr. Ajay Nair from Mera Doctor and Aditya Sethi from Digital Green. Ajay and Aditya led a session that guided the audience on how they could use various online platforms and resources as their organizations grew to serve more people

Michael Burns, Founder of Tall Tales led the second Masterclass – Once Upon A Time. Michael Burns talked about how stories are just data with a soul and lay the foundation for writing powerful stories to create and communicate impact.

The Huddle was also the perfect platform for us to officially launch our Skilling Portfolio. In conjunction with J.P. Morgan and the Michael & Dell Foundation, UnLtd India has started a focused program to support organizations that work on skill development in youth

This year’s conference ended on a bittersweet tone. Our Co-Founder and CEO Pooja officially passed on the baton of leadership to our incoming CEO Anshu Bhartia. Pooja’s powerful personality and indomitable spirit has shaped much of UnLtd India and her departure is an enormous loss. However, we are also excited to welcome Anshu who comes to us with a wealth of experience from both the corporate and development sectors.

We began The Huddle as an effort to bring our wide and far flung network together and have been privileged to see the conference and our network grow. This year’s Huddle was a testament to UnLtd India’s decade long journey in the sector. We were grateful to have our oldest and staunchest supporters with us and excited to welcome our new friends into the fold. We look forward to returning next year- bigger and better!

Until then, here’s to The Huddle 2017!
